Bush and Congress Ignore Security Warnings

President Bush and Congress are once again ignoring warnings of a threat to America's security.

On November 8, the Congressionally-mandated, bipartisan US-China Economic and Security Review Commission (USCC) warned "current trends in U.S.-China relations have negative implications for our long-term economic and national security interests."

The USCC recommends "Congress should consider imposing an immediate, across the board tariff on Chinese imports at the level determined necessary to gain prompt action by China".

The Commission explains that a tariff is allowed under the World Trade Organization rule which allows members to take necessary actions to protect their national security.

"I'm not alone when I call for trade-balancing tariffs to protect America's vital interests and industries. Small business and labor understand that the 200 billion dollar trade deficit with communist China threatens America's middle class and national security. It is past time our elected officials had the common sense to see it as a threat too," says Jack Davis, Erie County industrialist.
